In Which Adam presents: The Feathered Dinosaur Draw-A-Thon

Now recent news in the paleo world is that of the discovery of fossilized dinosaur feathers preserved not in stone, but in amber. In addition to being an amazing scientific discovery that could give us far greater insight on the coloration and structure of dinosaur feathers, which could in turn give us a better idea of their habitats and lifestyles, it is likewise simply breathtaking to look at.

So in honor of this momentous discovery, I shall be doing something a little special. Without further ado, I present the:

Yes, for the next 30 days, (That's from today, til October 21,) I will be drawing any feathered dinosaur, extinct or otherwise, that you request! Just post your request here, in the comments section. Or, if you have a twitter, send a feathered dinosaur of your choice to @Piscasaurus, with #FeatheredDino in the subject. At the end of the month, I shall post all of them up at once.

If you'd like to remain anonymous in the entry, please let me know. Or if you'd like me to link back to your blog or website, I can certainly be accommodating to that as well.

Please note that I am not a paleontologist, and while I will certainly do my best to remain scientifically accurate, if I make some sort of error, please just politely let me know in the comments section, and I will know not to make that mistake in the future!

Otherwise, please tell everyone you know to send me their favorite feathered dinosaurs, and if you'd like to have your own dinosaur draw-a-thon, go right ahead! This is meant to be a community project, so the more people interested, the better.

I look forward to seeing your responses!

Edit! Apparently September is Velociraptor Awareness Month! Suddenly this project has become far more appropriate.

Edit! Edit! This project is now a sweepstakes! If you enter, you have a chance to win one of the final drawings! See the above post for further details.

  2. I am tied between Confuciusornis and Similicaudipteryx ^^;

    Similicaudipteryx looks like a giant chicken to me and it would be hilarious to see it represented as a massive chicken but...

    Confuciousornis would look so cute when Adamified and it just has a pretty awesome name (the holy one)

    Adam, I leave it to you...choose well!

  4. Difficult, difficult. I want to say Haplocheirus, but that's so predictable given that it's me.

    A modern feathered dinosaur such as a shoebill or greater roadrunner would be interesting.

  5. Normally I would ask for a fun and speculative feathered Tyrannosaurus Rex drawing like this one http://ikechi1.deviantart.com/gallery/30599561?offset=24#/d3eku08 with the whole feather mane for display purposes but if that's not up your alley I would ask for a Deinonychus :)

  6. Oh my goodness, I love feathered tyrannosaurids. And those are just so big and poofy, it is delightful.

    It reminds me of what happens when you go on dinosaur comics and add &butiwouldratherbereading=somethingmorehistoricallyaccurate after the URL.
